Pharmacy dedicated to saving lives through awareness

Rising to the challenge of educating the community, Newcastle Provincial Hospital's pharmacy has set up posters featuring symptoms of breast cancer, ways for women to check their breasts and possible treatments.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to women’s health.

Rising to the challenge of educating the community, Newcastle Provincial Hospital’s pharmacy has set up posters featuring symptoms of breast cancer, ways for women to check their breasts and possible treatments.

“As a pharmacist, it is my duty to promote awareness about the progression of breast cancer. Detecting breast cancer in its early stages is an important component of this promotion,” explained Aarthi Janki, community service pharmacist.

She said one way to screen for breast cancer was through mammograms.

“It is important not to ignore any physical changes in the breast, including discolouration of the areolar tissue and the formation of any lumps.

“We at Newcastle Provincial Hospital offer our support, prayers and guidance to all patients who have been afflicted with breast cancer,” Ms Janki concluded.
