Over 162kg of dagga seized

2 women, aged 25 and 80, were arrested

An intelligence-driven operation saw police arrest 2 people in Bergville yesterday for possession of dagga.

Upper Tugela Borderline Control police and Ladysmith Crime Intelligence (CIG) conducted the joint crime prevention operation in the Emmaus area of Bergville.

During the operation, they arrested 2 women, aged 25 and 80, for possession of dagga. The suspects were detained and charged for possession of dagga, and are set to appear in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today.

Over 162kg of dagga with a street value of around R230,000 was seized.

The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the officers for their vigilance which led to the recovery of the drugs. “We will continue to secure our borders from being used for criminal activities and put criminals behind bars. Drugs destroy lives and we will do everything within our control to remove them from our streets,” she said.
