Eye-catching canal at Ingula

The concrete-lined canal is 800m long and about 50m wide

Fifi Meyer (Head of Ingula Visitors Centre) recently took some photos of the intake canal at Ingula.

The intake canal channels water from Bedford Dam into the underground waterways, from where it will drop down through the inclined shafts to the turbines, which generate electricity. The concrete-lined canal is 800m long and about 50m wide.

Around 700,000 cubic metres of rock had to be excavated to create the canal. It is certainly an eye-catcher, with its crystal-clear, fresh water in this time of drought.
