Dundee is playing host to SABC 2’s brand new Variety Talent Show: Showville. at the end of the month

Everybody dreams of becoming a star and basking in their fifteen minutes of fame. Every town has a story and every town has a star. Showville is coming to town to make dreams come true.

SHOWVILLE is South Africa’s small-town variety talent competition where two iconic hosts visit a different town each week selecting four finalists whose unique performances are put to a town vote to decide who walks away with R10  000 cash and the glory of newfound fame. People living within a 50km radius of the venue are allowed to enter the competition.

Hosting the series are two award-winning performers: TV star, comedian and record-breaking winner of South Africa’s “Strictly Come Dancing” Series, Rob van Vuuren; along with dancer, choreographer, and star in local dance movie “Hear Me Move”, Bontle Modiselle. They will be spending time with each town’s short listed four finalists, mentoring and coaching them, in preparation for the big show-off talent evening.

The production will take place from Monday, 26 October to Wednesday, 28 October, with most of it being filled and playing out at Moth Hall, Dundee.

Day One sees Rob and Bontle host open auditions at Moth Hall. Any and every type of performer is welcome to show their stuff and tell their story. At the end of the day, the hosts will select the four acts they feel will put on the best show for the town. These are The Finalists.

On Day Two – the Coaches mentor each finalist in preparation for the big ‘show-off’ talent evening. Filming of the finalists takes place as part of the everyday, normal lives of our finalists as they juggle to rehearse, go to work, spend time with their family and most likely, get all wound up and excited for their moment of fame. The audience will have to collect tickets to watch the Grand Finale at Moth Hall from lunch time onwards on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Day Three is the grand finale, presented at Moth Hall, Dundee on Wednesday 28 October at 17h30, where, in front of an audience of friends, family and local community, our top four perform their acts and get voted for by their peers as the best Showville Act of the night. The winner is awarded R10,000 and a glittering trophy signifying that they are their town’s favourite act and Showville’s Town Victor! The audience must please take note: no ticket, no entry.

The Series will be screened on SABC2 each Saturday at 8pm from November 7.
