Water leak causes obstruction in Ruby Gailey Drive

The leak was fixed, yet rubble, stones, rocks and pipes were just left lying in the road and also on the pavement

The talk of the town lately is burst pipes, leaks and no water for residents… Added to that, a huge obstruction was recently caused by a water leak in Ruby Gailey Drive.

The leak was repaired by uThukela, but they left rocks and rubble that blocked 1 of the lanes. This was the situation for a whole 2 weeks until uThukela finally returned and cleaned up the mess.

Yes, the leak was fixed, yet rubble, stones, rocks and pipes were just left lying in the road and also on the pavement. The rubble left the road looking terrible and a homeowner’s front yard in a state.

Area resident Jaco Moolman said that, “There was no reflector tape and the obstruction couldn’t be seen at night. It was very easy to crash into, we’re just lucky that didn’t happen.” Councillor Abbas Warasally also commented on the danger of having no reflective warning tape and that 1 lane of Ruby Gailey Drive was closed.

Next to the burst pipe was a leaking fire hydrant, with clean drinking water going to waste.

uThukela went out last week and removed the rubble that was causing the obstruction, so everything is back to normal.
