Elandslaagte police have recently seen hijacking cases being opened in their area relating to light delivery vehicles.
Owners of LDVs from the surrounding towns of Newcastle and Bergville are approached by people who claim to require the driver’s assistance in fetching a fridge from the Ladysmith or Ezakheni area.
These drivers are promised payment on delivery of the item.
The suspects ensure that they accompany the driver in his vehicle. As soon as the vehicle arrives in the Elandslaagte area, where it is quiet and isolated, they proceed to rob the driver of his vehicle.
In the interests of your safety, police appeal to owners of LDVs to be aware of this scam and to carefully scrutinize every delivery job before they agree to do it.
