Water-shedding hurts as uThukela fails to deliver

Residents were without water throughout the night

Water-shedding-affected residents waited with bated breath yesterday for water to be turned on from 4pm till 8pm. Their wait was in vain, as uThukela was unable to pump enough water into the reservoirs to be able to supply the affected areas.

Even with a whole night of water-pumping behind them, they failed to meet the 4am water schedule, with water only reaching the affected areas just after 5am. Water will again be cut off at 10am.

At this stage, it is unclear if uThukela will have enough water in reserve to start pumping again at 4pm.

uThukela is supposed to supply the town for 6 hours in the morning and 4 hours at night: 4am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm.

uThukela is expected to meet with the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce & Industry sometime today to discuss the town’s water woes.

The town is experiencing its worst drought in 37 years.
