A 78-year old farmer’s vehicle was ambushed by gunmen along the Winterton road yesterday morning.
The farmer, his wife and another occupant were travelling along the R600 between Ladysmith and Winterton when a man stepped into the road. Armed with a firearm, the man started shooting at the vehicle.
Two passengers in the vehicle sustained gunshot wounds to the arm.
Fearing for their life, the elderly farmer sped away in the direction of Ladysmith. The farmer then contacted police to inform them of the ordeal, before heading to a hospital.
Winterton police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
