Mondlo’s Thusong Centre officially open

Our main aim with these centres is to ensure that our residents do not have to travel long distances, in order to get access to government services.

COMMUNITY members of Mondlo were delighted to attend the official opening of the Mondlo Thusong Centre on Thursday, September 17.
The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube together with the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Cyril Xaba were present to officially open the R7 Million Centre.
According to MEC Dube-Ncube, these centres are scattered across the Province.
There are currently over 32 of them in many areas including Mbazwana, Nquthu, Mpendle, Phongola and they house offices for various government departments like Home Affairs, Labour, Post Office, SASSA and many more.
“Our main aim with these centres is to ensure that our residents do not have to travel long distances, in order to get access to government services. We know that this costs money and reduces a family’s ability to spend money on the essentials if they have to constantly travel far to get government services,” said Dube-Ncube.
This was music to the ears of Mondlo residents who before had to travel to either Vryheid or Nquthu for any of their government service issues.
The centre also has a computer training facility, which trains the youth and assists them with their research for school projects. Community members said that this would also help many job hunting young people who for years endured travelling to Vryheid to make copies and send faxes.
One of the residents, whose life has been transformed following the opening of this centre, is 21 year old Zanele Simelane, who used to make the arduous journey to Vryheid, in order to get home affairs services for her new born.
“I am running out of words to express how elated I am. Vryheid is about 25 KM from here and we pay R35 return to get there and back. This centre is therefore a much needed relief for our community. We thank KZN COGTA for not forgetting our area among areas that are equipped with these centres” said Zanele Simelane.
