Acaciavale residents left without water for hours on end

Residents in the area say that uThukela have still not attended to the burst pipe, and many are up-in-arms as they have no water and it is already late evening

Residents of Dianthus Road and Daffodil Crescent in Acaciavale have been without water for almost 4 hours.

A pipe burst this morning (Monday) in Dianthus Road, right on a resident’s driveway. The homeowner tried his very best to contact uThukela from about 6am, but the morning went by and nothing was done.

uThukela workers arrived after midday and closed the valve in Dianthus Road so that the water would stop flowing down the road and into storm-water drains, going to waste.

Residents in the area say that uThukela have still not attended to the burst pipe, and many are up-in-arms as they have no water and it is already late evening. “Almost a whole day has gone by and still the pipe has not been fixed by uThukela. Is this the kind of service they pride themselves on?” fumed one unhappy resident.

Councillor Abbas Warasally is trying his best to make sure water comes back on as soon as possible.

Without water, the heat of the day was also more of a problem, with residents complaining that they have no water for their babies and the elderly.

uThukela say they are attending to a burst water pipe in Observation Hill and once they have finished there, they will attend to the burst pipe in Dianthus Road. They add that the water should be back on later this evening.
