Scared dog abandons her pups after giving birth

"We have to find the mommy or else we have to put the pups down, because they are too small for anyone to look after"

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), together with a Ladysmith Gazette journalist, went out to Centenary Road this morning after a concerned passerby noticed a crossbreed dog giving birth in open veld.

When Annamarie Koen and brother Jaco Landman of the AACL went to help the dog, it sprinted away.

They gave chase to find the dog, but were unsuccessful.

“We have to find the mommy or else we have to put the pups down, because they are too small for anyone to look after,” says a concerned Annamarie.

The AACL, together with Public Safety, are still searching for the dog in their efforts to reunite the “mommy” with her puppies and take care of them at the kennels.
