The students also encouraged the culture of learning and teaching during the celebration of centenary. Provincial SADTU secretary, Nomarashiya Caluza, urged the pupils to learn and urged the educators to produce graduates who will contribute to the economy of the country.
“Teachers should make sure that they encourage teaching and learning in schools,” said Caluza. She thanked all those who had bounced back to their former school. She also encouraged the community and teachers who work together to mold children. “Spookmill had contributed to the freedom charter 21 years ago and it had also provided quality education,” she said, “there are doctors and other graduates who were produced by this school.”
Caluza urged the educational management to visit the schools regularly so that they would monitor the teaching and learning. She lambasted those teachers who sleep with school children.
“Parents should also take the initiative to make sure that their children get better education,” Caluza said, adding that it is essential for parents and teachers to work hand in hand in the development of children. Reggy Khumalo said they can make him a service delivery instrument.
He urged former learners to plough back to the school by donating school uniforms to the needy. Khumalo donated R1000 to the school during the celebration. He also urged everyone to pledge to the school for renovations.
