Department vehicles being washed during drought

Every 3 days the vehicles get washed there and the water is left open and flows down the street or road

Department of Agriculture & Environmental Affairs vehicles are being washed on a regular basis while the town of Ladysmith is in the grip of drought conditions.

Residents say that department officials park their vehicles behind the offices on the Queen Street side and have them washed.

It is said that while the vehicles are being washed, the tap is left on. Consequently, water pours out of the hosepipe and flows down the road. One resident commented that, “Their cars, bakkies and even Quantums get washed there.”

The vehicles are allegedly washed every 3 days, so you can imagine how much water is being wasted as a result.

“Is the department not affected by the water restrictions like the rest of us? We are in a serious drought, so how can they think it is okay to wash their vehicles when everyone else is told not to?” fumed one angry resident.

Another person commented that, “Cars can survive without being washed, but plants and humans cannot survive without water, so perhaps these guys should get their priorities straight and stop making the situation worse for us all.”
