Pupil arrested for unlicensed ammunition

Narcotics dogs sniffed through classrooms and corridors to help locate drugs

A high school pupil was arrested for possession of unlicensed ammunition on Friday. The learner was arrested in front of his classmates by police.

Ladysmith SAPS, including the K9 Unit, were involved in a cordon and search operation held at a local high school. Narcotics dogs trained by the K9 Unit sniffed through classrooms and corridors to locate drugs.

During the operation, police discovered one round of ammunition and a knife on 1 of the pupils.  A 17-year-old boy was arrested and was later released into the custody of a family member.

The teenager will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday. He faces charges of possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of a dangerous weapon.

During the search, 2 boxes of cigarettes, 5 small dagga parcels, 3 knives and 13 dagga cigarettes were found abandoned.
