The Lindokuhle Athletes Club are unstoppable

DETERMINED to make it no matter what, this is one way the Lindokuhle Athletics Club can be described.

This group of young athletes from Mondlo is determined to make it in the athletics field against all odds.

The team took home a trophy at the recent cluster South African Local Government Association (SALGA) games, which were held at Landou High School.

This qualified them to take part in the finals, which will be held on September 19.

According to the coach of the team Innocent Ngema, they currently have 147 young people from Mondlo who form part of the club.

“It is very hard to maintain the club and keep everyone motivated as we often do not have funds to attend all the competitions,” said Ngema.

“Most of the club members sell sweets at their schools in order to help with raising funds for travel costs,” he went on.

Innocent said that despite numerous attempts to receive financial assistance from the AbaQulusi Municipality, the club still relies on tiny bits of income to keep things going.

The club is in search of sponsors who can help them get official running gear as they are often not taken seriously during competitions due to their lack of uniforms, running shoes (most of their athletes run with their bare feet).
