Coast to coast in the name of Christ

Despite the gloomy weather, the community came out in full force in support of a splendid cause over the weekend.

Aletheia Christian College hosted a country walk in an effort to raise funds for its students on September 12.

A group of 12 students will soon depart to Bloemfontein to compete in a compulsory convention, the travelling cost of which is R10 000.

“Students from whole of South Africa, as well as Scandinavia, compete academically, culturally and out on the sports field. We go there for an entire week,” said event organiser, Marion Mckay.

The purpose of the event was to lighten the financial burden on parents by raising money in the most unique way possible.

The theme of the event was somewhat unusual and was open to cyclists, as well as two and four-legged friends. Participants were obligated to have their handmade passports stamped at various points on the respective routes.

Mrs Mckay said planning and executing such a one-of-a-kind event was no piece of cake.

Tuckshops were set up along the way, where participants could purchase delectable treats native to the country they were in.

“We researched facts about each country, made passports and sourced the different flags,” she explained. “We also had to find people to make snacks from each country.”

The team thanked their sponsors and congratulated all those who took part in the event.

“There are so many people we’d like to thank, but it would be impossible to mention them all. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event,” concluded Mrs Mckay.
