Protesters block Madiba Drive in Steadville

Protesters blocked Steadville’s main road, Madiba Drive, with rocks and burning tyres this morning (Monday).

They are demanding that RDP houses be built in the Thembalihle area of Steadville.

In addition to blocking the road, the angry protesters set fire to the security guard house at Afrisam.

Ladysmith Deputy Mayor Sindi Mfusi and Chief Whip Themba Ngubane spoke to the protesters.

The community say they will continue with the protest until their demands are met by the municipality.

Police, Public Safety and TRT are at the scene to keep things under control.
