With the support of parents and staff, Dannhauser Secondary School is on the right track to success.
Recently the school hosted a meeting with parents where the school’s SGB was introduced to the community. On the agenda of the meeting were also the issues of school fees exemption and application for 2016, the school uniform, examinations and assessments and the sensitive matter of discipline. Principal, Mr McDonald, who chaired the meeting, was very pleased with the turnout and positivity of parents. On the subject of school fees exemption and application for 2016, Mr McDonald said that parents had the right to apply for exemptions but that it was not an entitlement.
He elaborated that management would review each application and see whether it warranted an exemption. He also added that he was willing to meet with parents to discuss payment plans with regards to school fees, for those who could either not afford the whole amount, or afford to pay it off all at once.
When it came to the matter of uniforms, it was unanimously agreed by parents at the meeting that female learners should wear grey pants with a white blouse. It was also agreed that learners from Grade 1-7 wear a navy anorak and learners from Grade 8-12 wear a blazer.
The meeting also addressed the issue of examinations and assessments, with Mr McDonald urging parents to take more interest in their children’s assessments they were given during the year as it played a role in whether they pass or fail at the end of the year. The subject of discipline also came up. Mr McDonald explained to gathered parents that the school had four levels of transgression as part of their Code of Conduct. He added that he wanted to educate learners and parents on how the system worked, so that should a learner be found guilty of breaking the rules, they could not say they had not known about it. Parents left the meeting feeling more informed and involved with the goings on of the school.
With parents on board and excited about the future, Dannhauser Secondary is definitely on the right track to success.
