NSPS sets the bar

Newcastle Senior Primary School recently participated in Eisteddfods for local schools.

Newcastle Senior Primary School recently participated in Eisteddfods for local schools.

The school is always keen to take part in the event and this year was no exception.

The pupils entered and excelled in the various categories including, art, vocal, English, Afrikaans, instrumental and dance.

NSPS also organised and hosted the art Eisteddfod under the leadership of Antoinette Spies. The adjudicator was Corina Lemmer, a renowned artist with an art degree.

Canvases and colour lined the walls at the gala evening that took place at the school hall on August 12. Artworks from various schools were on display for everyone to see.

Trophies were awarded to category winners, as well as gold, double gold and triple gold certificates.

The summary of results is as follows:

English: 11 bronze, 46 silver, 77 gold, 20 double gold and three triple gold.

Afrikaans: 9 silver, 37 gold, two double gold.

Instrumental: silver 2, double gold 1 and triple gold 2.

Dance: two double gold and four triple gold.

Vocal: two silver, 10 gold, 10 double gold and three triple gold.

Art: 22 magenta, 49 silver, 18 gold, four double gold and one triple gold.

Jasmine Naicker was the Grade 6 category winner and received a trophy for her efforts. The school is incredibly proud of her.

The school made a special mention of the following groups and pupils:

Dance group, Kasi Libe.

Dance group, The Gumboots.

Mabutho Mazibuko and Buhle Dlamini, who scooped the award for best primary duet.

Mabutho Mazibuko, Buhle Dlamini and Xolisile Sithole, who stole the show with their trio performance.

The German and Hungarian bell choirs, who walked away with laurels.
