Prayer observed at temple

Varalakshmi Vrata is performed by married women for their families for wealth, happiness and prosperity

Devotees gathered at the Hindu Thirukootam & Shree Ganaser Temple to observe Shri Varalakshmi Poojay on Friday evening.

Red string, milk and flower petals were offered.

Varalakshmi Vrata is a festival to propitiate (win the favour of) the goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, one of the Hindu Trinity. Varalakshmi is one who grants boons (Varam). Varalakshmi Vrata is performed by married women for their families for wealth, happiness and prosperity.

Ladies also fast during this period.

It is believed that worshipping the goddess Varalakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshipping Ashtalaksmi – the eight goddesses of wealth, earth, learning, love, fame, peace, pleasure and strength.
