UPDATE: Factory owner relives armed robbery

“I tried to close the gates quickly, but they grabbed me and then pushed me over.”

Beaten and visibly shaken, three business partners escaped with their lives this morning after three armed men robbed their factory.

The factory in Scholand Street, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash intended for its staff’s wages.

One of the three business partners relived the terrifying ordeal.

“Our staff said there were two men at the gate that were looking for the owner of the factory. I went to look, thinking they wanted to purchase goods,” she said.

However, after talking briefly to the men, the woman realised they had not intended to purchase anything.

“I tried to close the gates quickly, but they grabbed me and then pushed me over.”

As she fell to the ground, the ordeal intensified.

A third man entered the premises with his two accomplices, grabbed the shocked woman and pulled her into the factory, before taking out their firearms.

The suspects proceeded to assault the woman and her two partners, hitting them in the face and demanding cash.

“They said they wanted all the money in the factory. I gave them my handbag, which had the wages for our employees in it.”

Once she had handed the bag over, she realised all her important documentation, such as passport and ID book were still in the bag.

“I told them that they can have the money, but asked if they could only give my ID and passport back.”

The men apparently did so.

Once they had the cash, the men fled the scene in their vehicle.

However, a fellow Chinese business owner was notified of the robbery and he quickly alerted the police.

The men were apprehended at the Marconi Street and Albert Wessels Drive intersection.

Alex Liu, chairperson of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said he was thankful for the police’s quick response and the arrest.

“We would like to see the three men convicted,” he concluded.

Police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela, said he would be releasing a statement during the course of the day.
