SPCA calls on residents to report animal abuse

All cases reported will be treated with the strictest confidence so witnesses don't have to fear being targeted

The Dundee SPCA has once again appealed to residents to take proper care of their animals and to report any form of neglect or animal abuse to their offices.
Residents are also urged to provide as much detail as possible when reporting cases so that it makes it easier for the inspector to investigate.

SPCA officials would like to inform residents that all animals are protected by the Animals Protection Act No 71 of 1962 which ensures that animals, too, have rights and that any contravention of these rights can result in a fine or a prison sentence for those found guilty.
All cases reported will be treated with the strictest confidence so witnesses don’t have to fear being targeted.
This appeal follows the horrific dumping of a sick old dog in Colley Street.
The dog was reportedly dumped and left to die in an empty veld near Kallies Stadium.

It’s pitiful cries were heard by one of the residents who reported the incident.

The dog, which was blind, deaf and suffered hip dysplasia, had to be eventually put down.

When the SPCA inspector investigated the case, conflicting reports from people in the neighbourhood made it impossible to find the perpetrator.

Residents are urged to report any cases of abuse to 072 949 6235 or 034 212 2851.
