Road rehabilitation on the cards

The general repairs and rehabilitation of the road will take place in the coming months as part of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant Programme.

While the municipality is hard at work repairing damaged roads on what is known as the ‘truck route’ on Victoria, Willson and Mckenzie Streets in Dundee, Glencoe residents are up in arms over the condition of the Biggar Street North Road.
The Biggar Street North Road is one of the entrance points to Glencoe and is littered with potholes and uneven surfacing.
Residents took to the Courier, to voice their displeasure on the condition of this road and some even claim to have had near-fatal accidents when swerving to avoid potholes.
According to a Municipal spokesperson, “road rehabilitation has been put on hold due to a countrywide shortage of bitumen (tar). However, the shortage is over and road rehabilitation is currently underway again”.

“Our road rehabilitation project, which consists of repairing potholes and resurfacing and rehabilitating roads, has already begun on Victoria, Willson and Mckenzie Streets,” the spokesperson added.
“We are aware of the condition of the Biggar Street North and will cut and fill the potholes next week to provide temporary relief for motorist, while the general repairs and rehabilitation of the road will take place in the coming months as part of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant Programme”.
