Not-so cunning crooks nabbed in Newcastle

The victim was ordered to pull over, before being forced out of the vehicle.

Three days, four suspects; this thanks to the rapid response of Newcastle police.

On August 24, police launched an investigation into a hijacking incident that occurred on Whyte Street in the Central Business District.

The victim reportedly gave a hiker a lift to an undisclosed destination.

The hiker proceeded to threaten the driver of the vehicle with a screwdriver.

The victim was ordered to pull over, before being forced out of the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, police managed to apprehend the culprit and recover the vehicle.

In a separate incident, three suspects were arrested in connection with a recent carjacking at a police camp on HJ Van Eck Drive.

Police received information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen Quantum, and upon further investigation, linked the culprits to the crime.

The suspects were detained and made their first appearance before the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on August 24.

According to police, the suspects are between the ages of 24 and 40.

The incidents remain subject to police investigations.
