Spirit of Ubuntu shines through

But through the pain and trauma of the accident, Mr Majola is grateful for the kindness shown by three foreign nationals who came to his assistance that night

The spirit of Ubuntu often shines through at the darkest of times. This is something that Ward Six PR Councillor Mthembeni Majola can attest to.

In July Mr Majola was victim to an accident that was allegedly caused by an unlicensed drunk driver.

He sustained injuries that saw him spend days in hospital, being treated for a broken collar bone and other accident-related minor injuries.

But through the pain and trauma of the accident, Mr Majola is grateful for the kindness shown by three foreign nationals who came to his assistance that night of July 2.

Just weeks after xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in Estcourt, Mr Majola was appreciative of the kind assistance from Daniel from Uganda, Charles from Ghana and Sam from Malawi.

The three gentlemen promptly came to his rescue when his vehicle was knocked into.

“I was saved by foreigners. This was after there were attacks on foreign nationals in Estcourt. It shows that people that you hate today can be your saviour tomorrow,” commented Mr Majola.

He added that despite the xenophobic attacks, the men did not hesitate to come to his aid.
“They had no grudges. They saved me by pulling me out of the car.

Daniel who is from Uganda said that their reaction is one that is borne from community spirit. “We are one. We should have no hatred. There is no need to hate or discriminate,” he commented.
