Professional angling league casts off

The rest of the season is certainly going to be a ding dong affair. The next fixture of the APL is League 2 at Richgate Park on August 30.

As predicted, the intense competition between Breakwaters and Challengers lived up to expectation during the first round of the Vees Micro Enterprises League Championship.
Fishing in rather testing conditions at Sandford, anglers tried their best to lure the elusive fish. The bites were few and far with only the lucky anglers managing to weigh in some points.
The stand out angler of the day was Dan Govender who raked up 9 points earning the honour of being the first angler for this season to wear both the orange and purple caps, receiving an outright trophy and R200 in cash.
At the weigh in, tension was clearly visible on the faces of the apprehensive anglers weighed for the declaration of the results. In the end, Breakwaters narrowly edged a gallant Challengers outfit who showed signs of rejuvenation, the score line reading 17 points to 15 points. Stillwaters also gave a good account of themselves as their three nets bagged 7 points notwithstanding the fact that many of their anglers were unavailable.
Breakwaters earned themselves R500 for winning the league fixture.
The heaviest carp was caught by Prenesh Panday of Breakwaters, weighing 2,760kg.
Two junior anglers, Ethan Burger (9 years) of Stillwaters and Kameshan Govender (12 years) of Challengers registered 2 and 1 point while their senior counterparts could not achieve this feat.
The current log reads as follows: Breakwaters (6 points); Challengers (4 points) and Stillwaters (2 points). The rest of the season is certainly going to be a ding dong affair. The next fixture of the APL is League 2 at Richgate Park on August 30.
