Alida loves her Harley

It was always a dream of hers to own a Harley, and the dream came true at the age of 50

As the owner of Tuinhuis Nursery, Alida Oosthuizen is a lady with a passion for horticulture. She loves to work in gardens and transform them to make them more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

As a people’s person, Alida loves to work together with the community of Ladysmith and surrounding areas. However, landscaping gardens can be quite hectic and she sometimes needs to get away from the stress of planning and satisfying discerning customers.

To create a balance in her busy schedule, she jumps on her Harley Davidson motorcycle and heads out on the open road.

Yes, Alida is the proud owner of a Harley Davidson Softail Blackline, which has a 1600cc engine and comes in a denim-blue colour. Alida says the raw power and sound of the bike on the open road gives her a huge thrill.

On weekends, she enjoys going on breakfast runs with her friends, mostly to the Drakensberg, where she finds the scenery to be the best. Alida is also part of the National Wide Steelwings Club, which has members from around the country. Recently, the club went up to the Drakensberg, where they were caught by surprise by the snow up on Sani Pass.

Alida is planning to ride to Weskus in the Cape in the near future, and is looking forward to riding with other Steelwings members from Ladysmith.

Alida’s Harley Davidson is the first and only motorbike she has ever owned. It was always a dream of hers to own a Harley, and the dream came true at the age of 50.

When Alida first bought the bike, it stood in the garage for 2 weeks until she took it on the road for the first time, which was a short spin down Ruby Gailey Drive and back up to her house.

She took it very slowly on that first ride, but now is virtually hooked on her Harley and much more confident. Alida says, “I will continue riding until I can’t anymore. I have a passion for the open road.”

According to her, Harley bikers are very safe when it comes to riding and they never leave a man or woman behind. Steelwings members also ride for charity to help raise funds and create awareness.
