Road rehab rage

The constant spray of dust and stones from passing motorists and heavy duty vehicles working on the road were becoming a health hazard

Businesspeople, pedestrians and motorists to whom Alfred Street is a second home have been feeling the strain of the road rehabilitation project undertaken here.

In March this year, Umtshezi Municipality officially announced that Alfred Street would undergo a rehabilitation, which brought relief to many motorists who travelled this potholed road.

But four months later, the heavy machinery, dust and stones are starting to aggravate those who frequent Alfred Street. A businessman from the area called the Estcourt News to request that the municipality inform residents about the progress and expected completion of the Alfred Street rehabilitation project.

He said that the constant spray of dust and stones from passing motorists and heavy duty vehicles working on the road were becoming a health hazard. Acting Municipal Manager Elphas Dladla said that the expected completion date is August 31, 2015.
