3 years in jail for burglars

Constable PS Radebe's meticulous investigation led to the successful prosecution and conviction of both accused on housebreaking and theft charges

The Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced Lindokuhle ‘Ma O’ Mkhwanazi (18) and Njabulo Mofokeng (25) to three years imprisonment on Friday, July 28, for housebreaking and theft of items to the value of R9000.

These items were stolen from a house in Ezakheni D-Section.

The conviction and sentencing of the accused stems from an allegation by the homeowner that between 7.30pm on March 16 and 6am on March 22, he left his house to go to Bergville and was later informed that his house had been broken into. On his arrival back home, the owner found that the burglar guards were bent and the door forced open.

His flat-screen television, amplifier and speakers had been stolen.

A case of burglary and theft was opened for further investigation at Ezakheni police station.

On March 22 at about 8am, Ezakheni Visible Policing officers received information concerning suspected stolen property being kept at a certain address in Ezakheni B-Section. On arrival at the address, a search was conducted and the items stolen in D-Section were found.

2 suspects were arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen and a case docket was opened for further investigation. Both dockets were assigned to Constable PS Radebe. His meticulous investigation led to the successful prosecution and conviction of both accused on housebreaking and theft charges.

Ezakheni SAPS Station Commander Colonel VS Dludla congratulated the investigating officer on a job well done. “The sentence handed down to the accused should serve as a deterrent to would-be housebreakers and thieves who deprive people of their hard-earned belongings,” said Col Dladla.
