TAXI commuters from both Vryheid and Mondlo should get ready to fork out just a little more for a return trip from home to town.
The increases have already been implemented in the long distance taxis (these being taxis travelling to places like Durban, Johannesburg etc).
Although it has not yet been confirmed, commuters are expected to pay roughly R2 more than they are currently paying for a taxi ride.
A meeting has been scheduled between the Vryheid Taxi Owners Association and the resident’s association and it is at this meeting that the matter regarding the raising of the fares will be discussed and finalised.
The Vice-Chairperson of the Taxi Owners Association, Mr Mbatha, did again state that the matter was implemented by SANTACO and thus there was little that they as the taxi association could do to avoid this from happening.
“The rule that was set out by the government was that taxi fares would only be going up once in July every year,” said Mr Mbatha.
A list of the exact prices is set to be released by the end of this week.
