7 injured on way to funeral

All 7 occupants were injured, with 2 people sustaining serious injuries

7 people were injured in a motor vehicle accident on the Hobsland dirt road earlier today (Saturday) while on their way to a funeral. The driver allegedly lost control of the Toyota double-cab they were travelling in.

The vehicle rolled into Mark Pitout’s farm, ripping through the boundary fence.

All 7 occupants were injured, with 2 people sustaining serious injuries.

Sharaj Ambulance Services, EMRS, ER24, police and Public Safety responded to the scene.

The injured were stabilised and then taken to hospital.

Farm owner Mark Pitout says the Roads Department has to do something about the gravel road and that it needs to be tarred. The Roads Department uses a grader on the road on a regular basis, but when this happens, the gravel becomes loose and makes it very easy for motorists to lose control and roll their vehicles.

Mark says that almost every week, a vehicle ends up crashing into farm fences along the road. To repair the fences costs almost R4000, which becomes very costly to farmers in the area.
