BARKING FUN: St Dominic’s Dog Day

St Dominic's Academy challenged all local schools to match or better the Dog Day fund raiser in aid of Newcastle SPCA.

St Dominic’s Academy pupils celebrated the end of term by hosting their first ‘St Dominic’s Dog Day’ to raise funds for the Newcastle SPCA.

Pupils could enter the ‘dog day’ by donating dog or cat food.

All entrants could then bring their dog to school (under supervision of mom or dad) and join in the ‘dog day’ fun walk. All pupils could enter, even if they didn’t have a pet.

A dog-walking route was laid out on the St Dominic’s sports grounds, and all pupils who finished the route received a refreshing drink and a lollipop for them, and a dog biscuit for their loyal hound.

All the dog and cat food raised was handed over to Matthew Msomi from the Newcastle SPCA.

“St Dominic’s Academy would like to challenge all local schools to match or better the St Dominic’s Dog Day fund raiser and do their part to raise funds, warm blankets or food bowls for the Newcastle SPCA” said teacher, Shirley McGhee.

“We hope to make this an annual event. Let’s work together to help the SPCA through the cold winter months!”
