New heritage village on the cards for Isandlwana

The doors to the village were officially opened with a sod-turning event today (Tuesday, June 23).

Isandlwana’s History will be relived and remembered with the creation of the new R12.5m heritage village.

The Isandlwana Heritage Precinct Development has been in the planning phases since 1999 and was born out of a strong desire to remember, capture, re-affirm and celebrate African History.

According to News24, the estimated cost for this new development is R30m and was funded by national government and  the National Lotteries Board. This initiative was also made possible through KZN Arts and Culture Trust (KwaCulture).

The King expressed his eternal gratitude for this and stated, “on behalf of all the beneficiaries of this funding, the Zulu Monarch and its entire subjects are grateful to National Lotteries Board for the ground-breaking funding of the Isandlwana Battle Fields development.”

Gugu Ngcobo of KwaCulture also commended this development and stated,  “although the days of the struggle wars may appear to be over, the African spiritual heritage is everlasting. NLB funding of this project has helped the Zulu descendants of King Cetshwayo’s regiments that lost their lives on that battle field, to preserve this particular chapter in African history”.

The National Lotteries Board explained that this project comes as part of the celebration of 20 years of democracy and has made this particular development one of its legacy projects.

This village has always been the King’s dream and will also be of great benefit to Zulus and South Africa at large as they will be reminded of the mighty Battle of Isandlwana.

The doors to the village were officially opened with a sod-turning event today (Tuesday, June 23).
