Bruntville CHC is moving employee health forward

After the sharing of valuable information, staff members turned on the heat with an aerobics session

Red tops and blue jeans were the order of the day to spice up a recent staff wellness day at Brunvtville Community Health Centre (BCHC). The event took place in the Bruntville CHC car park on May 20. The theme for the wellness day was: ‘Together we move employee health forward’. The campaign’s call to action messages included: ‘Come join in the fun during our employee wellness day’ and Burn it, burn those calories’.

To get the staff excited and aware of this movement a pre-mobilisation flyer and lollipops were handed out to staff members prior the event. This was given to each staff member in a form of an invitation prior to the event.

During the event, a packed audience of mainly staff members and a few intrigued passers-by were thoroughly informed and entertained by Occupational Health Nurse Sister Zukiswa Motlaung, Infection Control Nurse Sister Nokuthula Msomi and Site Mentor Justice Shabalala.
They discussed general health, sex education and the global pandemic HIV/Aids.

In addition, Quality Manager for BCHC Lungsani Mkhize kept staff members up-to-date on the progress being made in the Healthy Lifestyle Program. The facility’s music band, Rolling Stone, entertained the audience with a few numbers as well.

After the sharing of valuable information, staff members turned on the heat with an aerobics session conducted by pharmacy assistant volunteer Sthembiso Mnculwane. After the gruelling aerobics session, once staff members had caught their breath, they were screened for health conditions by Government Employee Medical Scheme (Gems) nurses.

To end a very active day, staff members were later given relaxing massages by masseuse therapists from Gems. The event proved to be a huge success and attendance and participation was excellent. A total number of 23 Gems member queries were serviced during the event and a total of 25 health care clients attended the health screening.
