Glencoe hunter charged, injured by buffalo

He is said to be in good spirits, but it will take months for the wounds to heal, friends said.

Glencoe-based hunter, Francois Taljaard, is recovering in Pongola Hospital after he was injured by a charging buffalo.

Francois had taken a client hunting in the Pongola area when the client shot and wounded the buffalo.  He and Francois became separated in thick bush and the wounded animal charged at Francois knocking him to the ground.

His right arm and upper right leg were said to have been shattered during the attack. The buffalo then turned it’s attention to Francois’s dog which gave the client enough time to shoot and kill the buffalo.

Francois was taken to Pongola Hospital and underwent a four-hour operation.  He is said to be in good spirits, but it will take months for the wounds to heal, friends said.
