A middle-aged homeless man was found dead underneath a postal box at the Amanath centre.
A resident of the nearby flats was alerted to the body by municipal cleaners at around 6:30am. They then informed the police.
EMS paramedics responded immediately and pronounced the man dead on scene. It is believed he died of hypothermia, but the cause of death still needs to be determined.
Newcastle Advertiser was on scene and will report on the matter as soon as more information becomes available.
