By-laws ban burning

IT IS that time of the year again when dead leaves start to irritate some people . PLEASE NOTE that you may not collect leaves and then setting them alight. The burning of leaves is against the laws of the town because it is very dangerous to do so.

Many a serious fire has resulted from a pile of burning leaves, and can also lead to people sustaining injury from the resulting fires. Apart from anything else, there is also the pollution issue. We appeal to the public not to do this.

There has already been a complaint lodged with us that some people living at the bottom end of South Street are burning leaves, and not only are they burning piles of leaves, but heaping them up against the tree trunk before they light the fire, and in so doing damaging the tree as well.

PLEASE DON’T DO THIS, preserve our town.
