What is Youth Day?

The day is celebrated with musical concerts around the country in order to celebrate the energy of youth.

June 16 is a very special day in this country’s calendar, for on this day, special recognition is given to the country’s youth for the sacrifices they made and for the pivotal role they played in liberating South Africa  from the grips of apartheid. It was the Soweto Uprising which laid the grounds for the release of Nelson Mandela and the end of the Apartheid regime. Not only is the day celebrated with musical concerts around the country to showcase  the energy of the youth, it also sees youth-oriented  programs organized by NGO’s, civic organizations and educational institutions.

Various youth oriented non- profit organizations also organize awareness campaigns on this day to the nation’s future-leaders country aware of the challenges  they face
