SAPS has a new face – Colonel Nyide

Colonel Richard Bonginkosi Nyide, aims to make waves in the world of crime prevention.

Armed with knowledge, expertise, and a love for community, the new Station Commander at Dundee Police Station, Colonel Richard Bonginkosi Nyide, aims to make waves in the world of crime prevention.
Colonel Nyide was born in New Hanover, (a small town in the midlands of Kwazulu-Natal) where he spent his early days before relocating to Mafakatini.
He was an avid traveller and attended various primary schools and high schools before matriculating at Mpophomeni High School.
Later, he went on to work as a teacher for a year. While teaching, his love for the community grew and when the opportunity to join the men-in-blue came along, he took it with both hands.
He put down the chalk and picked up the gun and lawbook at Technicon South Africa in 1991, where he obtained a Policing Diploma. “When I stepped into the gates of the college my eyes opened and my burning desire to serve the community took over,” Colonel Nyide enthused.
His keen attitude and zest for community work has seen him working at various police stations.
These include Boston SAPS, his first posting and later at Townhill Police Station and Impendle Police Station where he first took on the post of Station Commander in 2001.
He later worked at Estcourt Police Station in 2005 for a short while before being given the post of Visible Policing Commander in Howick. After that he served as Station Commander of Camperdown Police Station before going back to Howick.
Upon his return to Howick he was given the opportunity to be a Cluster Commander of Howick.
This experience he described ‘as edifying and exciting’. “This gave me a lot of experience. Being in charge of five different stations enabled me to learn the dynamics of the force and the area,” Colonel Nyide exclaimed.
Having accumulated a lot of knowledge and experience under his belt, he has finally made his way to Dundee – taking up his post officially last Monday. He hopes to bring more knowledge on crime prevention strategies to Dundee. He also commended the officers at Dundee Police Station for the warm welcome and remarked that Dundee is a clean, peaceful town which makes interaction much easier.
