Children’s home needs help

Morester Children's Home is in dire need of financial assistance.

Morester Children’s Home is in dire need of financial assistance.

Ria Naudè, the home’s public relations officer and fund-raiser, said with 212 children in its care, it was becoming increasingly difficult to meet financial obligations..

“We have 58 children, then 15 babies at Home Meah and 139 children in Ladysmith. We get Government subsidy but 60 per cent of that goes into the running of the facilities.”

With the children and infants requiring basic necessities we take for granted, Mrs Naudé urgently appealed to the community for assistance.

“There are several ways in which people or businesses can get involved and make Morester part of their social responsibility,” she said.

One method is when a company challenges staff to make a monthly donation, matched by management.

Another is through collection tins placed at organisations.

Donations of unwanted clothing, toys, food or money are always welcome.

Working at the children’s home for a day could also be considered, as this would allow one to experience first-hand the difficulties the home is currently facing.

Volunteers are also required to assist with maintenance or administrative tasks.
