Uthukela ‘not sure’ about water supply restoration

Residents in Drakensview, Wembezi and Brewitt Park were at the mercy of erratic water tankers when the water supply was interrupted due to the damaged cables

Stolen and damaged electrical cables feeding the George Cross Water Works are reportedly the reason why most taps in Estcourt’s Ward Three area have been dry since Saturday.

Residents in Drakensview, Wembezi and Brewitt Park were at the mercy of erratic water tankers when the water supply was interrupted due to the damaged cables.

According to Uthukela District Municipality’s Jabulani Mkhonza, old and damaged cables needed to be replaced and this is what staff is currently busy with.

He added that in other parts of Estcourt, cable theft has been reported and this too was adding to the time taken to restore the water supply.

Mr Mkhonza said he was “not sure” about when the electrical cable repair work will be complete and urged residents to contact the Customer Care Centre on 0860 104 257 for updates.
