Sisters determined to bring books back

“We just want to remind people that it is open to all and the idea is to bring a book and take a book in exchange. We want to get children reading and it will be good for Newcastle,”

Haseena and Shameema Patel are sisters on a mission.

They are determined to open a world of vivid colours and imagination to youngsters as they introduce the joys of reading to them.

The sisters had come up with the concept of a book exchange club last October and have made headway in the formation of the initiative.

“We have about 100 books, divided into different categories,” Shameema said.

The books have been donated to the sisters by people wanting to share their dream of resurrecting a love for books.

Haseena said they were in the process of acquiring premises from where they could run the book exchange club and would notify the community immediately once it was up and running. They also still require shelves.

“We just want to remind people that it is open to all and the idea is to bring a book and take a book in exchange. We want to get children reading and it will be good for Newcastle,” Haseena enthused.

The idea had formed when Shameema and Haseena, who are the founders of Leave No Girl Behind International, decided literature was one of the ideal ways to encourage girls to reach for their dreams and for their male counterparts to participate in the journey of equality.
