Sentraal beat Eskom and Newcastle

It was 57-0 when the lights died, ten minutes into the second half.

Eskom may have had the final say on the outcome of Friday night’s Sentraal/Newcastle rugby clash but it was the boys in blue and white whose red-hot display could have even powered up a few power stations.
It was 57-0 when the lights died, ten minutes into the second half.

Sentraals men of the match, Siyabonga Xaba and Henk Booysen.

The power cut that caught most of the boisterous by surprise but may have been a relief for the team in red from Newcastle. Boy Hesom, Dolf Kruger and Johann Coetzee of Sentraal were full of smiles which became even broader when the generator was fired up to at least light up the clubhouse at Dundee High School. Sentraal ran in nine tries: Eugene Corbitt (three), Charles Dube (two) and one each from Innocent Mbahayi, Tyrone Terry, Siyabonga Xaba and Danie Vermaak. Pierre Booysen succeeded with six kicks. Sentraal, sponsored by T-Shirts-For-Afrika, were 38-0 up at half time and indications are that the final score could have been akin to a cricket score if not the Princess of Darkness intervened.
