Vryheid High School – Memories last forever

EVERY week we report on the games played and the scores achieved, but we never mention the people who make playing this winter sport league possible.

‘Coaching is the universal language of change and learning.’ A special thanks to all the special people who offer up their time and expertise – the coaches! Without them learners would not have the opportunities to practice and play, so they would not experience the changes and learning that dedicated coaching brings them. So when we salute these coaches, we also remember that ‘Trophies collect dust, but experiences and memories last forever!’

On Saturday, May 16, we played against Dundee High. Winning most of the games played is good for sport, however, the dignified manner in which our learners faced the general attitude of the other teams, which was intended to intimidate VHS teams, was far more praiseworthy.

Results: Netball: o/14A 19-20; o/14B 18-3; o/15A 28-9; o/16A 22-13; o/16B 15-12; 2nd 11-16; 1st 15-13. Rugby: o/14A 37-17; o/15A 24-7; o/16A 7-5; 2de 26-8; 1ste 38-0. Dogters hokkie: 1ste 2-1; 2de 0-3; o/16A 2-1; o/14A 1-1. Seuns hokkie: 1ste 2-1; 2de 2-4. Skaak: 2½ – 7½.

On Wednesday, May 13, VHS played against Pionier. The seniors played on their fields while the juniors played here. Congratulations to Pionier – their teams generally played well. And well done VHS teams for playing enthusiastically despite the odds and for maintaining a good spirit of sportsmanship anyway.
