Fraudsters make money ‘grow on trees’

Money might not grow on trees, but for three criminal ‘masterminds’, convincing their victims otherwise was easy enough.

The suspects claimed they could increase the value of money, coaxing victims into handing over their hard-earned gains.

A woman placed her trust and entire salary in the hands of the Inyanga and ended up losing everything. Fortunately, police managed to recover the money.

“Police warn the community to avoid thinking money can just be multiplied,” said SAPS spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela. “Only banks can give you interest on your money.”

Victims of similar scams were advised to contact the Head of Detectives in Newcastle on 034 314 6193.
