Clash of trucks as three collide

A rescue medic used the jaws of life, to move the crushed truck away from the injured driver.

Three trucks collided with each other on the N11 on Tuesday. The collision occurred in the direction of Ladysmith near the Dundee turn-off.

Paramedics from KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services (KZN EMS) responded to the crash.

“One person has been injured in the crash. However, the patient had sustained serious injuries and was entrapped in the truck that he had been driving,” said KZN EMS spokesperson, Robert Mckenzie.

Paramedics stabilised the patient, before a rescue medic used the jaws of life to spread, cut and shear the crushed truck away from the injured driver.

Once the patient had been removed, he was further examined before being transported to hospital for continued medical care.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.

“Motorists are reminded to always be extremely cautions on the roads, especially if they are feeling tired or drowsy; they need to stop and take a rest,” advised Mr Mckenzie.
