Dumpsite to be expanded?

THE VRYHEID municipal dumpsite is a festering ulcer on the body of AbaQulusi Municipality’s service delivery record. It has been for years. All programmes to improve the handling of the town’s waste, however well intentioned, have all stumbled to a complete halt.

An “Invitation to Tender” notice appears in this week’s edition of the Vryheid Herald. The tender description is “The Expansion of the Vryheid Landfill Site”.

The only other clue as to what is involved with the tender is in the first clause of the notice, in which the consultant “invites suitably qualified entities to tender for a contract encompassing a landfill cell and attendant infrastructure, a site access road and building platforms at the Vryheid regional landfill waste site”.
