Nquthu rapist jailed for rape, robbery

The Nquthu Regional Court has sentenced Nkosinathi Ngcobo (23) to eight years in prison on a count of rape, ten years for robbery. He is currently attending other cases of rape at the same court. His sentence was handed down following his confession for a rape that took place in Nquthu. On August 18 2013 at 7pm, 27-year-old woman was walking at Luvisa, Nquthu, when she was stopped and confronted by an unknown man. She could not identify him at the time as it was dark outside and surrounding lights were too faint.

Due to the rural surrounds her cries went unheard. The case of rape was opened for investigation at Nquthu SAPS.
The Dundee Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit took over the investigation. Police uncovered that the suspect is part of a gang of men who were involved in a series of rapes that tormented the Nquthu area for months. The suspect was identified later as Nkosinathi Ngcobo. He as well as his two accomplices were later arrested and linked through DNA to a number of rapes that took place in the area. The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised the Dundee FCS Unit for the successful investigation that led to conviction and sentence of this serial rapist. “The SAPS will continue with its mandate to ensure that justice is served by making sure that the rapists are locked behind the bars. Rapists should not be living in our communities and should be behind bars so that our communities are safe at all times,” she said.
