4 die in horror crash near Winterton
All the occupants in the Corolla died at the scene
4 men died in a horror crash tonight (Saturday) on the P180 (Emmaus road) near Winterton.
It is alleged that a Toyota Corolla travelling from Emmaus towards Winterton collided head-on with a Toyota Quantum which was heading in the opposite direction.
All 4 occupants in the Corolla died at the scene.
The jaws-of-life had to be used to free the lifeless bodies from the mangled wreckage. The deceased, aged between 18 and 40 years old, are all believed to be from the Emmaus area.
The driver of the Quantum sustained serious injuries and was transported to Emmaus Hospital by paramedics.
The roadway was closed for almost 3 hours while clean-up operations were carried out.
Police, RTI, EMRS, ER24, Sharaj Ambulance Services and Superintendent Freddy Halgreen (Public Safety) responded to the scene.
Both vehicles were taken away by police, who will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and the exact cause of the crash.
Police say this is one of the worst road accidents in recent times in the area.
