Doug Grewar, Chairman, AbaQulusi Residents Association, writes:-
IT HAS been unanimously decided by the AbaQulusi Residents Association (ARA) committee not to amalgamate with Afriforum but to continue our mutual co-operation as fraternal civil society organizations.
This was decided because the ARA is purely concerned with improving service delivery to all the communities of AbaQulusi while Afriforum has a wider mandate.
The ARA acts as a watchdog on our municipality. A residents’ or ratepayers’ organization is an asset to any honest municipality. It acts as the eyes and ears of the municipality by communicating the community’s problems to the Municipality, so that they can be solved before people become frustrated and have to resort to violent service delivery demonstrations.
The ARA is therefore disappointed that our mayor has not yet responded to our request for a meeting so far.
The ARA membership on its Facebook page is fast approaching 1,000 members. An increasing number of Zulus are joining and this is good because bad service delivery affects everybody.
